Warm & DryPosted: October 9, 2012
This extravagant October sunshine demands some time out from our usual autumn toil. When we’d normally be picking mushrooms, hauling wood for the stove and slogging around in rain gear, we decided to devote an afternoon to 100% non-productive fun. After all the summer salmon trolling, the kids like to plunk down on a dock, hold the fishing rods and feel the bites of whatever’s down there. This time, our catch consisted of: Three bullheads, two tiny flounders, one big red rock crab, a giant starfish and tons of fun. We had turkey burgers for dinner.
Last year, October started with eleven straight days of rain. Chanterelle season was already halfway over. Everything outside was soaked. But this year, nothing but sunshine. We’ll take it.
