Woods Water WeekendPosted: September 4, 2013
We spent the last few days prepping for back-to-school, which means squeezing in as much summer as possible. Gorgeous weather made it an especially fine time to be out looking for silvers and chanterelles.
On Saturday, we found a few chanterelles pushing up through the barely-damp forest floor near our house. They’re still a bit dry, but good enough to whet our appetite for the prime season to come. Sunday we took advantage of light breeze and glassy-calm water to put some fat silvers in the box.
I can’t think of a better way to wrap up what’s been a wonderful summer. Beautiful weather, good fishing, farm work, so many great meals, picnics, camping trips… Hard to believe the kids will be off to school in the morning. Where did it all go? I’ve said it before, but the longest days of the year go by the fastest.
